Tatasky replaces my Set-Top box for only RS 350/-

This Rs.1850 might be the true cost for changing STB after warranty expired. but it is very hard to believe that they change STB for only Rs.350/- as this was their visiting charges as per best of my knowledge.

Yes this seems to be correct. other wise Tata Sky and money will go together.... they can not replace any old/faulty STB in Rs.350/-

This may be the beginning of a de-facto AMC. Since AMCs for house hold appliances vary between 15 and 20% of the equipment cost, rs 350 including a visit seems reasonable. As the STBs are manufactured in India, it is easier for TS to change the stb at site and ship the defective one to the factory for repairs and retained as back up. As TS is now sure about the quality of STB and low failure rates, they can repair/recondition/substitute stbs at very low costs. From my work experience - one company in the business of hermetically sealed refrigeration compressors - the defective returned unit is totally dismantled, critical parts and defective parts changed, and the compressor goes through the full assembly/inspection/quality processes; it is as good as new. Another, an electronics MNC, the pcb is repaired,if repairable, and goes through all quality checks, and charged between 25 and 35% of a new pcb. A responsible company will always look for ways reducing cost to customer.

yes cable is better as of now. but i am still waiting for ESS on IPTV. Aksh IPTV is cheap but without ESS i dont want to go for it.

My cable wallah has given me the Set top Box for a mere Rent of 500/- i hope they have an offer on other states in india..... Monthly rent for Cable is 150/- pm excellent offer.. usually gets 150 channels +

May be there is some retention policy is in place if it really is true.Now i doubt if any of Tata's(for that matter other operators) STB's cost 350 or 1500 or may be even 3000.There is a lot of hardware and propreitory encoder/decoder together with any licencse fee they are paying.There financials also show they are making heavy loses on subsidizing these stbs.But replacing stb for 350/- only after warranty period is indeed good news,may be they are taking the competition seriously.Now it makes no sense for the customer to get the stb replaced for 1500 when by paying an amount that is almost equal to a full year recharge they can get a new stb with any rival dth service.With Airtel ,Videocon on the horizon,things will only get better for the customerMy dishtv stb also died last week,and now i am seriously considering getting Tata Sky instead of paying 1500/- just for replacement Stb.

My dishtv stb also died last week,and now i am seriously considering getting Tata Sky instead of paying 1500/- just for replacement Stb.

I am also echoing your statement.
Unless the customer is an annual subscriber, asking for Rs 1500 for a replacement STB in this competitive market is a ridiculous practice .

May be i am too harsh, but AMC Plan for an STB is a joke.

Just visited a neighbourhood shop,who recently started offering dth.On enquiring he told me that a new Tata Sky connection costs only 1500/-(installation included), Subscription price monthly.If true it is the new entry level price for Dth.They were earlier charging 1000/-additional for insatallation.
Can anybody confirm this.Their website does not provide any new info regarding this.

Earlier i wasn't looking at the flash intro.They have also not mentioned installation free offer in the main page nor in terms and conditions.They are pushing 2999,2699 and mainly 3999 offer.
Installation free 1499 offer is a nononsense offer.Just get the dth for 1499 and recharge with whatever package you want.Wonder why they are not actively promoting this offer.
