providing on ala carte basis is best if they want to provide subcriber more options. But TS is telling reason is to provide more options to subcriber and pulling more money from customer. number of channels pulled out from package is not and to get same channels what we are paying now is not acceptable from consumer point. :)

Is there any dth operator in any part of the world, who provides only la carte channels and no packages. I am under the imprssion, that only expensive channels will be available for individual ordering.

May be TDSAT is acting smart here! First allowed them to show it a-la-carte and now they will ask them to bring down price such that overall rate is same!

yes u r right... when a-la-carte channels are added with the base packages, the final cost is more than what it had been before... say Rs.15 more i guess....

So far I know about operators in Middle-east (ADD/Showtime/Orbit) & UK (SKY/Virgin). Both offers most channels in packages and only special channels are offered as a-la-carte.
Sky in UK offers channels as package of Sports, News, GEC, etc along with single channels from Setanta, MUTV, MTV (& few XXX also). This channels need to subscribed seperately. Indian channels are also available in package like MAX, ZEE
About Tata Sky, they are doing good thing by seperating channels for individual selection, but the base price should be significantly reduced, only then their a-la-carte move would be welcomed
