Well it all depends upon the user base. What's the use of all the features if hardly anyone in your circle has it installed.
Whats app have good base now it has lots of users and some people don't know the uses of whatsapp. "Tu Whatsapp mee hai kya" it became now first word in mouth of people.No people like to use any other messenger.other messenger are good compared to whatsapp but it became that toothpaste means colgate.

Exactly. When I had installed Whatsapp couple of years back there were hardly 5 people in my contacts who were using it, so I had uninstalled it. Now more than 95% are on Whatsapp.
At last year I think so there was something about you can send only 5 messages per day at that time whatsapp users were started growing because it only needs internet and no people are going to switch to some other messenger because people think only whatsapp is best this became the mentality of people.

for telegram the playstore reviews are even bad , over a period of time telegram might have a good user base and more features than whatsapp , till then , its only whatsapp
