hmm. it's based on his own life but names are different.

Shia LaBeouf based the script on his own life, with his character being based on his own father, and the title comes from his childhood nickname.[5][6] LaBeouf wrote the script as a part of his rehabilitation program.[7]

It's amazing how we remember certain celebrities by their most famous movies which are also where their work was its lowest and yet the range of their other work is phenomenal.

I mean we all remember Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart from Twilight, Shia from Transformers/Eagle Eye etc.
