The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich confirmed that a prequel series set 1200 years prior to the events of the Netflix show is currently in development. The upcoming live-action spinoff will be titled The Witcher: Blood Origin and will contain six episodes. Hissrich confirmed that writer Declan de Barra is attached to create the series alongside Hissrich herself.

Blood Origins will explore the myth and lore of the Continent specifically, in order to show how the first witcher was created.

In the novels, the Conjunction of the Spheres was a multiverse event that reshaped the Continent, which, at the time had been dominated by the Aen Seidhe race of elves. The event resulted in monsters from different worlds littering the Continent, the arrival of Nordling humans and the arrival of the mystical, chaotic force known as magic.
