Set in 1920s London, WFTP tells the story of Leonard Vole, played by newcomer Billy Howle, who finds himself accused of murdering the heiress Emily French, played by Cattrall, in a frenzied, bloody attack.
But Vole, who was left a significant fortune by French, reckons his chorus girl partner Romaine, played by Birdman star Andrea Riseborough, can prove his innocence — but only as a witness for the prosecution.
Vole is represented in court by lawyer John Mayhew, portrayed by Detectorists star Toby Jones, who is going up against King’s Counsel, Sir Charles Carter KC, played by David Haig.
The Witness for the Prosecution airs Boxing Day (Dec 26) at 9pm, and then on Tuesday December 27 at 9pm on BBC One.
