It is time to delicense/open up 6 GHz frequency band for full utilization of this resource for INDIA'S GROWTH STORY
Currently USA (fcc) have completely (5.9-7.1 GHz) delicensed 6GHz frequency band allowing all stakeholders to utilize the full potential the said band offers, on other side china have completely restricted the 6GHz frequency band to telecom operators only, putting these two global leaders at poles apart. EU/UK have, as of now, divided the band in question into two bands, namely lower frequency (5.9-6.4) band and higher frequency band (6.4-7.1) and have delicensed the lower frequency sub set of the 6GHz frequency band and is in process of considering the higher frequency sub set of 6 GHz frequency band. Russia have chosen to go with delicensing lower frequency sub set of the 6GHz frequency band only while reserving the rest of the band for licensing to select purpose.
Currently 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz have a combined spectrum of less than 1 GHz.
2.4 GHz (2400-2483 MHz) offers a total of 83 MHz and 5 GHz (5150-5350 & 5470-5875 MHz) offers a total of 605 MHz, totaling to around ~690 MHz.
With ever increasing HOME WIFI capabilities, and the age of IoT infrastructure, especially in cities the wireless spectrum is quite congested, (think about apartment structures particularly) especially the 2.4 GHz. Also consider we are the most populous nation with many cities with a high density of population, also the FTTH standard have greatly improved the data speed. This 6 GHz band will increase the efficiency of WLAN network 4X the throughput of 802.11 ac standard
It is INCUMBENT TO HAVE ATLEAST 2 GHz of wireless spectrum as a delicensed RESOURCE for the nation.
Apart from Home network, 6 GHz frequency band has lot to offer in economic development of the nation, considering IT is having a significant impact by each passing day on all aspect of activities that we undertake, particularly in Manufacturing and service sector, so restricting or licensing it only for telecom sector or Satellite TV and other satellites might be turn out to be a bottleneck for Indian growth story.
Opinions of all dimension are welcomed
Regards
