Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't volte provisioning the same thing as mac binding onts on olts but with IMEI?

Why can't they just allow all phones with the necessary firmware to the IMS thing?

Well in kerala the situation is opposite not even airtel or jio can beat the download speeds of vi, In cities they have deployed band 8 b1,b40,b41 b3 with 3ca and all ,where airtel or jio cannot compete them even during peak hours..As for volte its finicky.

My primary number (Vodafone ) already ported out to Jio (5 Months back). Reason was pathetic 4G/3G and lots of call drops at my home

We had one more Vodafone number(very low usage ) moved it to BSNL(a month back)......

Reason to move BSNL was
1. Minimum recharge of 48 per month in Vodafone (without any benefit )
2. Wanted BSNL number (as planned to disconnect landline and move ASEEM plan )

There is merit on both arguments - Not all providers are good everywhere, so may not make sense if you are someone who travels a lot within the city and faces issues on different providers in different places - whereas for someone for whom it works in a couple major places like home/office etc - that provider would be the best and it would make sense to switch to as well.

But that doesnt mean porting wont help.
It helps you decide the best for areas you frequent. Gives you choice.

A friend of mine chose Airtel as it had a stronger signal in his office area (when he selected airtel in those days he spent v long hrs in office, now its a different story) but quite useless in his hse but at home he uses vowifi. So he is happy. Also all other providers have a non existent signal near his hse.
In all cases we have to select a best fit for our needs. Thats why I repeat we should not generalize. To each is own. Some members here on Vodafone get super speeds in their area in Kerala but thats almost impossible in Mumbai. So a lot of people in Mumbai are voting with their feet to a provider with a better signal in their area.
And most importantly the prices are not almost the same. Airtel & Vodafone (historically they have been v similar thats why over the decades theres always been a suspicionof a cartel between these two) , possible but jio is currently is lower.
