All major ISPs in US are IPoE + DHCP btw! I've not seen any ISP using PPPoE - atleast major ones. Can't say about smaller ones. Even Jio is doing same which great. Jio has lots of other issues but I like their stance on not using PPPoE.

@Chip Agreed, lmaooo!!

With Airtel, everything except internet quality is shit. The billing, cancellations, service requests, and outages still haunt me. It was some of the best internet quality paired with the worst service worked great until you needed anything extra, like bridge mode or a static IP, or needed support during downtime. Then it fell apart completely. Eventually I'd had enough and cancelled as it was damn expensive too.

Fwiw even with exorbitant cost of TPF (on higher tier plans) at-least TPF has much decent support system and service where you can connect with humans asap and they solve your issues much faster too.

Okay I asked Hathway support and static IPs they assign to router mac address via DHCP. Customer care said once you pay their team will take your router mac and assign it. That's pretty neat for INR 118 per month gotta say.

One more underrated offering from TPF. Airtel charges 200+GST for this.

How does this even work from a 'cost' perspective? You can pause the broadband indefinitely after every 30 days, achieving free OTT forever?

Total validity of OTT remains the same as duration of recharge. For example if I recharge for 3 months and pause for 15 days, I will get OTT validity of only 3 months in total. That means I no longer have OTT access in last 15 days of my plan.

pause and resume is such an amazing tpf feature tbvh! more providers should honestly do the same. but i have no hopes from airtel.
they don't offer any consumer-friendly features honestly. they won't even add extra validity days for downtime.

the other day, heavy rain started from the morning and my primary internet, you broadband, went down from 11 am and stayed down the entire day. i called support and raised a request on the app, but since it was a sunday and the rain was relentless, they couldn't send a technician. they apologised and said they'd look into it.

the next morning, someone showed up and fixed a los issue. he also mentioned i could request compensation via phone or email, and they'd add the lost day(s) back to my validity. so i called and emailed, both. and guess what, i got a grand total of 2 days added via the call center, and 2 more via email...

so in total 4 extra days for 1 day downtime...

Dam this is called professionalism YOU is treating customers right, even Excitel used to do that before now they have turnd different.

Airtel and Jio just can't

They do add extra validity if internet is down for more than 24 hours. One has to call CS and get it, they don't do it by default.
