Hello! My name is Arjun & this is the first time I'm posting on this forum. I want some practical as well as legal advice. My late father was the sim owner of a Prepaid Airtel Number. He had recharged his sim/mobile number for a period of 2 years worth Rs 3598 (1799+1799) in the first week of June, 2024. Unfortunately, he passed away in the second week of June, 2024. Out of nowhere, his sim card has stopped working now. On reaching out to Airtel Store and letting them know about the death of the sim card holder, I was informed that the sim/mobile number can be transferred in my name but the recharge done by my father for the period of 2 years shall be cancelled/removed after the ownership transfer in my name. As it is a genuine & clear case of inheritance among blood relatives, it is only fair that the sim/mobile number must be transferred in my name along with the recharge validity of 2 years & benefits as per the plan chosen & paid for by my late father. The Airtel guys asked for my father's death certificate which I was more than willing to share/provide, but they were adamant about the transfer of ownership without validity & benefits. They told the recharge done by my father is non transferable & shall lapse after transfer of ownership as they have to de-activate the sim/mobile numbet & then only they can issue it to me. Can I sue Airtel for this & hope to get positive results??? What are the legal yet feasible options available???
