I just bought a new DVB-S2 tuner card, i'm looking at
Tata Sky or BIG as of now. I just read your tutorial but as I am a newbie I am unable to understand the tutorial.
My Card is Avermedia Satellite trinity A707

I have not understood exactly the hardware and software requirements you have written.
Should I tell the
Tata Sky ppl to give me emulator card reader instead of the STB or do I have to purchase both the STB as well as the card reader.
Please help me out.

Tatasky does not support this. You cannot ask Tata sky guys to do anything. You need to purchase a card reader but that method is lot of sweat and often blows the card.
The S2 card you have purchased does not have a CAM module. Thats a mistake. You should have got the card with the CAM module that way you can purchase a Videoguard CAM and use it.
If you dont have a CAM you need to purchase Smart Card reader that are not cheap but may work.
BTW: How much did you pay for your S2 card and how did your purchased it.

Look I had already ordered this card before I came across your tutorial.
Just one thing tho, can I use the same tutorial for the CAS connection.
And I really do not mind getting a card reader and spending for it, as this card itself is quite costly.
It was supposed to cost Rs.5300/- but it cost me Rs.6300 Product+Shipment + Rs.1600 Customs. I had to get it imported as the local Avermedia distributor stopped responding.
I have spoken with the Avermedia guys and they have a card reader too.
Can you have a look at it and see if it is proper as it is meant for the Trinity

Looks like you are one hell of a enthusiast. Appreciate it.
Let me boil it down for you :
Typically to access a paid tv system you will need following things :
1) The particular DVB-S/DVB-S2 card.
2) Encryption Decoder for the particular paid channel system
You have solved the 1st part pretty awesomely. But the doing the 2nd thing is the hard part.
There are two ways to handle it:
1. Have a generic Smart Card programmer like the one here
WB Electronics and then use a software CAM to read the card and decrypt the channel.
I am using this method and it seems to be less reliable. I have already tested this with Tata Sky and BigTV. While the performance of Tata SKy was good my card was blown after two weeks. Big TV I can watch channels but the reception is not that smooth.
I have use this method because the Card I had (Twinhan) did not have the support for CAM module.
2. Using a CAM Reader and a CAM module. The product link is for CAM Reader, but you still need to purchase the particular CAM module for your Provider that will go in the CAM reader.
This seems to be more stable and costly way to go.
Different provider uses different type of encryption system and hence requires the specific cams,
for example,
Tata Sky needs Videoguard CAM
BigTV needs Mediaguard SECA CAM :
sateuropa.co.uk: SECA 2.0 CAM
Sun Direct Irdeto CAM :
PULSAT.COM - IRDETO CAM - SATELLITE CAMS
Airtel needs Videoguard CAM
DishTV needs Conax/Mediaguard CAm
There is also another type of CAM which handles several Card types at once (Hybrid CAMS) like Dragon CAM and Matrix CAM. There firmware is upgradable for future support but configuring could be little different.
Also Videoguard can be only accessed via Dragon CAM.
