Hi, I have a laptop with Vista OS and recently got Airtel broadband. The Airtel guys "configured" something in Network Connections so that internet is working, I do not know what they did. However, now when I visit my HomeTown where we have BSNL broadband, it is no longer working. Earlier it was working fine. Not sure what is wrong and how to troubleshoot. Any pointers would be helpful. Kindly let me know if I need to provide more details on this problem. Regards,Krishna.

Please mention your mode of connecting. Is it PPPoE or Bridge ?

Welcome to broadbandforum.co

Presume you are using the same laptop computer
same modem/router.wifi. confirm
mention the details.
(1) modem/router/wifi model in location 1 and location 2
(2) connecting Laptop in WIFI mode only ?
(3) Airtel connection 1 location 1. Your userId/PW vpi/vci 1 and 32
(4) BSNl connection 2 location 2 different userID/PW vpi/vci 0 and 35

(5) If possible COPY/PASTE data here.
Procedure ( for xp Pro sp3 mine )
START RUN type cmd Ok
New window
Type ipconfig /all

(6) It is the modem settings that may need extra entries.
What Airtel has set can/may work.
I am using Both BSNL and Airtel
ISP in wifi mode. Also some other unsecured/secured
wifi channels can also appear.

FEEDBACK.

Unfortunately, I do not know how to answer this question :-(

Please mention your mode of connecting. Is it PPPoE or Bridge ?

Can you connect to internet just by switching on the modem or do you need to enter the ID and password using a dialler. Also please post the other information requested in post # 3

Location 1: Using Airtel in WIFI modem. It was originally a BSNL modem, but Airtel folks configured it for us when we disconnected BSNL and took Airtel connection. Here I connect laptop using WIFI mode only.

Location 2: UTStarcom modem provided by BSNL itself, not WIFI. Here I am trying to plug the network cable to my laptop and trying to use internet - same works for a desktop at home.

I do not know what is vpi/vci 1 and 32 - vpi/vci 0 and 35 - kindly throw more light if possible

I do not see the sticky thread you mentioned - is there a 2nd page for the sticky threads too? Not sure how to navigate to that.

FEEDBACK.

I am not sure if BSNL folks have entered any user ID and password and saved configuration somewhere in the desktop. I just turn the modem ON and it connects to internet.

I have replied to post 3 and provided all details I can.

Thanks for your continued help.

Can you connect to internet just by switching on the modem or do you need to enter the ID and password using a dialler. Also please post the other information requested in post # 3

Then you are in PPPoE. VPI/VCI = 0- 32 =airtel, 0-35 = BSNL

Dilip, what does this mean to me? Am I supposed to change any setting so that my laptop is able to connect to BSNL?

Then you are in PPPoE. VPI/VCI = 0- 32 =airtel, 0-35 = BSNL

In your modem, only required settings is 0 - 35 for BSNL + username password and 0 -32 + username password for airtel. Check whether these two settings are ok. As you are in PPPoE mode you can easily connect two systems, provided these values are ok. Please wait for others to comment.
