I recently decided to try out the gigabit plan from Airtel. It was just a one click upgrade for me, the plan speed changed from 200 to 1Gig in seconds although a ticket has been raised for installation, maybe the need to upgrade the router as well.
As per the Airtel thanks App, the plan is still showing as 200 Mbps only, it's been more than 24 hours. They has also raised a ticket for plan change which shows "in progress". Till now nobody has contacted me for upgrading the router nor the OTT benefits with the gigabit plan are showing up on the app.

Speeds are pretty decent. I am using the TP-Link G3 ONU with with Asus RT-AX82U router.
Attaching some screenshots for the speedtest just for reference.

Speeds on steam and epic games seemed to be capped at 700-800 Mbps, maybe my SSD is a bottleneck. Speeds are consistent even during peak time(6pm-11pm).

Over Wifi I am getting 750-800 Mbps down and 500-600 up. (Macbook pro M4 with 160Mhz enabled). On iPhone 12, 600-700 down and 400-500 up.

These speed tests are done over IPv4 only(dynamic public IPv4), i have disabled IPv6.

my friend who lives in kolkata has a 300mbps airtel connection and everything loads faster on his connection due to less DPI than me

my 200mbps local fiber loads websites very slowly now ,unless i connect proton VPN Mumbai server heck even my Vi 4G/5G sim loads websites quicker than my 200mbps connection

My Asus router is a Wifi 6 model, download speeds go upto 600-700 Mbps over Wifi which is fine. I don't expect it to hit 900 mbps because the router is in the next room.
@Kyle Crane you can your goodbyeDPI tool to get rid of DPI. Btw this is the exact reason why I prefer Airtel over Tata Play. Websites load faster, connection feels snappy. Tata has implemented heavy DPI like Jio while on Airtel it's minimal if not none.

earlier airtel used to provide greater than 940 mbps speed on 1 gbps plan but recently due to high throttling they are not even able to provide 920 mbps.

@87056 goodbye DPI does help but there isnt many options on iPhone

i enjoyed the first couple of months on my local connection where i didnt face DPI but since the heavy rainfall event in Mumbai everything went to shit lol
i wouldve continued Airtel Airfiber if they had better plans and higher FUP limit

Local ISP doesn't implement DPI usually. Try to get a better router maybe, most of the time those shitty ONTs are the bottleneck and not the ISP. Latency on my connection dropped quite a bit when I got my own equipment, yes even on LAN. Even a basic TP-Link dual band router would give you much better performance than the ISP provided one.
The only reason I like Airtel now is because of the connection quality, especially in my area. Yes Tata play has amazing download speeds but the browsing feels very janky to me.

no i have been using a TP-Link Archer C6 V4 and a 1gbps DBC ONU box ,In the First 7 months i did not face such issues until 19th of Aug when there were heavy rains in Mumbai and the network went offline for about 2 hours and after coming online i started to notice how everything was slower than my cellular service and till date this has been like that

maybe i could get a VPN router which has built in VPN so i could set that to Mumbai server @87056
