usb extension

at my friend's place speed of evdo is awesome but the prob is that he is surrounded by tall buildings and the speed yet awesome but signal is very unstable 1 or atmost 2 bars..hence gets disconnected every few minutes,if he manages 5 mtr extension he gets 3-4bars and 800kbps average,I bought an usb extension cable for him and it works with everything but doesn't work with the evdo card and says device is malfunctioned..where as the evdo works with all other extension cables 2mtr long and all devices work with the 5 mtr cable that only gives prob with EVDO card..so both are fine but don't work with each other ,plz help about this as it is extremely necessary and might help other people also:wall:

Buy the best quality USB extension cable...May be something that comes with gold plated contacts and thick cable!

it is gold plated and thick cabled..the EVDO CARD always gave error DEVICE MALFUNCTIONED with all cables and on direct connection as well but worked a second later...but this time it refuses 2 work at all with the 5mtr cable:huh:is it the fault of EVDOCARD?

BSNL EVDO does not work with any extension cables except its own. I had the same problem.

NO!evdo has worked with any extension cable of mine,only except the 5mtr one:huh:

I tried 1 mtr and 5 mtr. Both didn't work.

1.This forum not very active, because most of us are using Broadband through Landline.

2. The Freq of operation of EVDO card is around 2.4GHz, and the transmission from the tower will be also same freq. See other WIFI routers . Antenna length is barely 6 to 8 inches. ( compare with DTH reception or your cellphones )

If you don't hear a conversation in your cellphone, you change location or go outdoor in the open for better "Line of sight" from the tower.

3.When you use an extension cable for the EVDO card, , imagine you have
modified the antenna efficiency, and usual USB cables are not matched.

4.May be 2 meter cable has matched properly.
( Loss will be there )
What is the present length of cable supplied by BSNL ,
and is it available in Computer shops ?
Any marking on the cable?

Rotate your Laptop for best signals. and try from a higher plane ( say 1st or 2nd floor if possible)

I have connected total 4 cables and it measure upto 4.5mtrs and it connects well.....very strange
