If the modem is connected to router or phone adapter then what? Will the modem dial it automatically

Thanks Cyberwiz for ur prompt reply. When I connect through bridge mode I get two '2-monitor' symbols in my taskbar tray. One stands for 'Local Area Connection' and the other for my Dialer Application. When the line is dropped the Local Area Connecction symbol shows disconnection but the Dialer App. symbol shows a 'Connected' status which is why it does not redial.Any workaround?Thanx

panther , In winxp the LAN connection will never show disconnection or "limited or no connectivity" unless the modem /hub to which ur lan card is connected suffers a power loss. As long as physical connection is there between the lan card and router it will never show any disconnection even if its disconnected from MTNL or there is a link loss with exchangeIF the router remains on and still the LAN Icon shows disconnection then u have a faulty ethernet cable or Lan card. Also is ur router connected to a UPS? @gavnit i presume that u are talking abt Linksys PAP - if modem is connected to adapter it has to be in PPPoE/A mode so it will dial automatically.IF its connected to another router then it has to be in the bridge mode and the responsibility of dialling remains on the other router

Thanx CyberwizAnother problem is I am using utstar300R2U modem supplied by mtnl who have replaced the utstar firmware by their own limited firmware which does not give access to Advanced features like Port Forwarding.I read in your post at BSNL forums that this modem can be completely configured by telnet. Can you explain how to do this or point to link which does so?Can you send me image file for the firmware of the above modem?I emailed both Utstar and MTNL the former did not respond and the latter presumably did not understand the issue. Utstar Mumbai Office could not come up with a solution!

U can access all advanced function in this firmware itself by typing 192.168.1.1/main.html into ur browser.

I've completed all the steps, but i'm unable to figure out how to schedule the reboot.(It says "Create a task to run tst10.exe with the command line parameter /r:reboot.txt." ). how do i do that? And also i want to know that how can i schedule the running of the download program at that time, for eg.- running of a torrent client for download.

its quite simple u have to create a scheduled task by goin into Control Panel >> Scheduled Tasks (win xp)

The task manager will load the various executable files of the progs that are installed on ur comp. If tst10.exe is not listed u can browse to its directory and select it. Next u need to add the parameter r:/reboot.txt

see the attached screenshot for more info. Automatic_reboot directory will be replaced by the folder where u have put tst10.exe. Remember to rename ur reboot file as reboot.txt.

U can similarly add the exe of the torrent client in the scheduled task thru the task manager and then specify watever time u want it to run.

OK, i did that, and i tried running the scheduled task, and the dialog of the program does come up, but it doesn't reboot my modem. Where have i gone wrong? (I have completed all other steps i.e. reconfigured my modem, switched over to bridged mode, changed the IP address, created a network connection)The username and password which I have to put in the reboot.txt file -Is it the Modem web interface one or the one I enter at register.bol.net.in?And if somebody can tell me what is the difference b/w bridged mode & PPPoE mode?
