My net is too fast to load this UI. :|

As we’ve been working on bringing Steam to the living room, we’ve come to the conclusion that the environment best suited to delivering value to customers is an operating system built around Steam itself. SteamOS combines the rock-solid architecture of Linux with a gaming experience built for the big screen. It will be available soon as a free stand-alone operating system for living room machines.

Steam had released a first public beta of SteamOS, Linux (to be exact, Debian 7) based operating system for gaming. Currently requirements are high -

  • UEFI boot
  • NVIDIA graphics card
  • for now, the installation removes everything from the hard drive.

This is an early beta, so it isn't designed to be easy to install.

How many are willing to try it ? I dont want to format my drive 👅

SteamOS 3.8.10 launched last week with a slew of updates, including “improved compatibility with recent Intel and AMD platforms.” Alongside that improved compatibility, Valve is giving gamers the green light to install SteamOS on their own desktops.

Currently only AMD GPUs are supported but NVIDIA GPU Support is being worked on though it might not happen this year.
