ported my primary number and my brother's to vi postpaid (reluctantly, ugh) because the house i shifted into has terrible jio connectivity. every call would partial-mute, couldn't hear the other person or they couldn't hear me, and eventually drop. vowifi wasn't reliable for calls either, and data never crossed 2mbps in my room. it was bad bad. so despite how much i hate vi, i had to switch.

my work number's on airtel and i didn't want two airtel sims. airtel's average anyway, but vi at this location is blazing fast: 130-140mbps indoors, though upload's only 5-6mbps. still way better than jio's 2mbps down and 0.02mbps up. call quality is crystal clear too and no call drops.

my question: with limitless, do i get truly unlimited 4g and 5g data, or is it capped?

also one more observation - vi and airtel data generally feels faster to use than jio even when jio's speedtest numbers look great. could be jio doing heavier sni/dpi filtering and inspection - all three teclos do it to some extent, but if jio's running it more aggressively, that adds processing on every connection. so even though the network's sa and a speedtest shows great speeds, actual browsing can feel slow.

@jehunix I mostly travel to blr or hyderabad only for work, sometimes to delhi.
I guess something is wrong with my airtel sim, maybe because it's an esim? I am not sure if that should happen. Using the latest iPhone 17 so no hardware bottleneck. I will try getting it converted into a physical sim and see if anything changes.
Yes, I was planning to try out Vi on prepaid basis first.

@_rajat i'm using airtel esim only on iPhone 12 mini (as physical slot is occupied by china mobile in roaming mode), works great. i don't think it's because of esim or your phone tbvh! but do try vi prepaid. it was great for me in delhi and bangalore too (talking 2023-2024 - i was on vi postpaid then), later switched to airtel and then jio (once i got issued the work airtel sim).

though in cities you shouldn't have any problems ig! do try prepaid and lmk how it works for you too in pune and other areas.
