Vi Stops Offering 100 SMS /Day In Combo Prepaid Plans

Vi (as with Airtel) has stopped offering free 100 SMS /day to users of Combo prepaid plans. Unlimited Plans continue offering 100 SMS /day as before. Unlike Airtel, Vi clearly highlights this for users. Airtel has just removed the 'detail' from the plan information.

Good move... Now with everyone have WhatsApp and other internet enabled messaging apps, time for operators to make those extra bucks on SMS platform.

How many of us still use SMS to message?
It's only to request OTP and bank verification SMS which will not be free anymore.

End of story:- We need operators and operators need customers, operators have to find ways to monetize, imagine if all operators unplug and we are left with no one.
 
Should have stopped at we need operators and they need customers. No need to imagine what we would do if they unplug. It is a symbiotic relationship, neither the operator nor the customer is more important than the other. If we imagine a world without telecom operators, we will have other ways to interact. Do we need telecom operators if we have 100% WiFi and VoIP apps? We do not. Communication systems are just that - systems. They can change, they can evolve. Do computers interact with one another over phone numbers? That same system will be available on mobile devices if the world so tilts. Phone service operators serve a purpose for us? So do we for them.

My only peeve with them is their 24/ 28/ 56/ 84 days validity offerings. Just give one month meaning 31 days and be done with. Much easier to track. Charge whatever you want to for it. I would like calendar month offerings to help tracking and planning.

You want to charge for outgoing SMS as in want me to get a plan for it, I am fine with that idea - I used to do that previously. Just give me standard calendar-month validity plans for SMS as well for tracking and planning.

As to the need for SMS, I do not use WhatsApp. I use Telegram and Signal since 2014. How do people send me small bits of information if they don't use these two apps? How do I make sure my message to someone gets sent since I am not finding them on Telegram or Signal? I send SMS. It is ubiquitous right now.

As of right now, incoming SMS are still free.

Its not just paying for sms

With this change, even if you have sufficient main balance you cant send sms unless you are on unlimited plan.

Even you can't sent port out sms without being on a plan
 
Because in a lot of areas, Jio reps are forcibly making illiterate people send out port-out SMSs. Illiterate people who don’t understand why suddenly they need to recharge every month with an amount (which is unreasonable to them), especially when they make no outgoing calls.
 
Oh wow @pillaicha! But not too surprising. I think it might go both ways. Airtel and Vi people might be trying to do that to Jio subscribers, too. Today, India's "chalta hai" attitude has seen a lot of vikaas and it does not look like it will stop soon.
 
Any idea how to stop this constant corona message every single time I make a call? Now it is getting on my nerves. Both Vi and Airtel. What's people's experience with Jio in this matter?

For airtel pressing 1 during the corona message stops it. Vi and jio don't allow this.
