So, video calling (from dialer) to another cell phone , not possible without internet huh? It is possible. I am shocked to my vary core. I am sure, LAN TO LAN connections yes, but that will require some service to be on the cloud no to do p2p connection? Nope.

Requirement - MI/Samsung Phone.
Connection : Jio (Not sure abt airtel/other providers)
Mode : VoLTE.

So, I am in Jammu and ofcourse our internet is down (2g/3g/4g). My father received a call in front of me and strangely it was a video call from one of his business friend. He was using a Samsung Phone and my father was too. Even my father was surprised and he said , could I look into it as how it was possible. I asked uncle every damn question. I even told uncle to switch off the internet , even I switched off the mobile data from my fathers phone and still both phones video calling was working. Then We switched off the SIM and there's goes Video calling. Tried reading about this on the internet (BSNL Broadband is working in Jammu). Got to know this is what VoLTE magic is. My father and his business friend was atleast at a distance of about 130-150kms. All that is needed is that sim should be on and you should be receiving signals. That's it, you can even turn off your mobile data for all that matters. Use your normal dialer app (My dad is using samsung a30 may be or some series with A and uncle was using Galaxy S9). Before someone laugh on this post or say I am insane , PLEASE TRY IT AND THEN POST.

Btw I tried this with facetime on iPhone and facetime won't even let me dial some other iPhone number. So It's possible only on android and that too selected phone in which , atleast the minimum requirement is VoLTE.

This is not a clickbait, if you guys think there is a trick involved or something as this is just not posssible, I have a surprise for you, it is.

Wanted to report it at reddit actually but I am banned at r/india lol for having political opinion against Rahul Gandhi.

Actually it is not actually suprising. Because you have experienced the native video calling volte/4G. Which does not require internet like other OTT video calling applications which makes use of the internet on the application layer of OSI model. iirc it will be using the network layer for communication.

Isn't this what "ViLTE" (video-over-LTE) is all about? what's so surprising about this?

I thought Voice over LTE was like HD Voice calling(good quality) or Internet still on 4G and active when a call comes or running. Anyways, always good to get surprised like that.

But how do we get this on iPhone ?

@webie .......... is normal voice calling over Jio working or it is also suspended. If it is suspended than it is surprising that they are allowing video calling and suspending voice calling.

many of us have never experienced it because it is not a stock feature on android devices i believe. only some manufacturers add it at their end. and devices on both ends need to support it. it was quite popular i think when jio launched and people were using lyf devices.

It is available on Redmi note5 pro also......... and through Jio4GVoice/ JioCall on all devices.....

Jio app works between different carriers? Is it available on Airtel and Vodafone?
