Video quality of SD

After the satellite problem,SD has restored the channels with poor quality for video in all channels.Especially the Sun Music channel which had very good video quality and stereo has still audio fine in stereo but the video quality -both colour and resolution are just average and in fast actions,it is just colour patches....Even the DW channel which is wide screen and near HD quality is poor.Hope the channes will be restored with earlier quality.If not it is better to switch over to cable.

Yes..You are absolutely right..We miss the picture quality that has been an advantage of sun direct before the blackout..Even channels like bbc look pixelated now..Seems they are packing too many channels in the limited space available on INSAT 4B now[by compressing too much I guess]..

That is right.They are compressing the video for some technical reason.They must be aware of it and may take it up.I am with SD for the sheer video and audio quality of Sun network channels in all the four southern languages-especiallyTamil and Malayalam.Hope they restore the quality soon.

Just for everyone's info, they are most probably moving to a new satellite for that extra space. So we just have to hope that they get enough transponders on that satellite[not yet clear as to which satellite is it] to carry good quality signals as well as space for it's expansion of channels in future..
Till then atleast, they should compensate for those who paid 1 year subscription fees by either giving us replacement channels or giving extra validity for the service.

There has been a firmware upgrade yesterday which took 15 mins approx.
One good news is that we can change the home transponder's frequency, adjust some parameters[like symbol rates] and scan any new channels.
By the way, is anyone getting Sony channel's signal?[it should be encrypted for basic pack customers]
