Yes, the mpv for Android is not being actively worked on nor was ever the priority.
The main goal of the player was to be incredibly powerful while striving for minimalism at the same time, people who prefer using their keyboard instead of the mouse would appreciate this more.
Hence, I said there is a learning curve.
And tho it works just fine out of the box, it is very much customisable but can only be done by tweaking the config file.
 
Agree with @Lolita_Magnum there are other alternatives to VLC player...just pick one of em. As for the blocking of the site...there are babus in the Govt who in their infinite wisdom believe they can issue orders without any logic. But then that's the way it is.
 
IINA is another alternative media player. Website would be IINA dot IO. Just on macOS though and no mobile versions.

I use smplayer if someone is looking for an alternative.

VLC should be available through ninite. Not sure if vlc download would fail through it.
