yup!ppl cud use ur stolen sim (unless u report it to vodafone) and god knows kahan kahan call kare! hmmm, PIL in this effect to sue vodafone wud b cool! airtel procedure is more strict as compared to vodafone! I had difficult time convincing them to give me my PUK1 so that i cud keep it in my records in case of emergency!:ashamed:

very long back when some1 was playing with my mobile, PIN got locked and then i called orange/hutch ppl and they asked me name and address and then gave me PUK. so i dont know why they came up with this voice based service.after that i saved my PUK so now no need to call them.

If obtaining a PUK code is so freakin easy, PIN locking your SIM is absolutely pointless, with Vodafone.Even security codes can be reset to defaults by providing your phone's IMEI number on certain websites. So setting a security code to protect your phone also not that secure, except for BB5 phones.I have both, PIN and Security code setup on my phone. Feeling really happy that my phone data and SIM are secure if it got stolen... pffft!Some months ago while exchanging some files with some friends via bluetooth, I could authorize who could connect to my phone with my security code. All Nokia phones required the code to be able to send files to me. But a Sony Ericsson didn't!Convenient to send viruses or other crap to someone who has bluetooth active and isn't aware of it.
so how easy was it to deal with airtel?
It's quite easy to deal with Airtel Prepaid but with Postpaid it's not. Airtel Postpaid are very strict and they ask all you history before making any move or say, activating any service. I will say Airtel Postpaid is very secure!

No its simple, with prepaid, they have already received payment so they dont have to worry much. With postpaid, (fraud) person can make numerous calls and then if actual owner refuses to pay it wud be loss to company. so they be careful with postpaid.

forgot to mention that i was lucky that i had a vodafone sim myself. so i could make the 111 call from my phone.
no clue how to contact the customer care of hutch from some other connection.
had same problem today.. but sim was not of cook but thanks to your info i tried this and got the PUK code by IVRS easily within few mins
