I am using iPhone 3G on Airtel (Haryana). I wanted to setup Voicemail on my phone. I have called CC care numerous times, they keep telling me to dial *117*1# from my phone to activate the service but when I do this my phone give me the error - Unknown Application. Has someone been able to do this? Any help here would be appreciated..

oooh. i am not sure if airtel has programmed their network to support the visual voice mail functionality on the iPhone. from what i know, it is a customized service that is to be provided to iphone users. and it does not work unless your carrier supports it. and since you are using the iphone 3g on airtel... the model they sell... they should have support for it.

I am not looking for Visual Voicemail. I had come across this article ( Using voicemail with Airtel on an iPhone : /bin/true ), where everything actually works (I mean when I click on voicemail it dials the voicemail number) but the number in the example from the site is not the correct number for Haryana, also I think I need to activate the service also . Any Ideas?

When I click on Voicemail it just dials the number and hangs up after sometime. Voicemail service is free (except for the call charges used when dialing voicemail, and would be really nice to use it.)

I have registered a complaint with Airtel, they said they will get back at me by 18 March. But it would be really helpful if someone can tel me how they setup their Voicemail with Airtel, Specifically if they have done so in Haryana, because each circle has a different VM number.

If all you want is the VM number, just take anyone's phone with an Airtel connection and dial 1. It should show you the VM number. Easiest way to find the number. Some providers - Vodafone I know for sure - store the number as an address on the SIM itself.

Thanks but the tip didnot help since I need to know how to activate VM service first for my phone. I call CC about a week ago, Still no word from them, Will call them again I guess.
I found these two articles
Using voicemail with Airtel on an iPhone : /bin/true
the::unwired - HOW TO: Diverting Voice Calls by using USSD Codes
Tried them, but still cant figure it out. Anyone if you are using VM serive in Haryana can you please tell me what number your Calls are being forwarded to and what number do you cal in order to check your voicemail?

P.S. I have still not been able to setup Voice Mail. After hours of contacting CC and explaining what Voicemail is and its not Voice messaging .... I have given up, if someone is able to setup Voicemail on iPhone people share here.
