ACT does not officially support ipV6 in Chennai. However, they do offer ip6 addresses when requested by your router. The only issue is that they don't allow ipv6 packets to pass through. Only ipv4 is allowed.
I found this by mistake one day, when I was playing around with my router and suddenly it got an ipV6 address issued from ACT. However, all my connections were still ipv4 and running tests on Test your IPv6. failed.
Bewildered I called ACT who's tech team was like we are handing out ipv6 addresses but aren't allowing packets through.
I am unable to wrap my head around this. I have tried multiple times to get through to someone higher than the engineer on the backend team to no avail.
Why would a company that has the infrastructure ready, prevent users from actively using them? It would be a different matter if they don't issue ipv6 anywhere else, but they do so in Bangalore and other regions where they have setup shop recently.
I'm posting here out of frustration and looking for solutions to get ACT to actively enable ipv6 connections in Chennai.
This has been going on too long. I'm tired of being stuck behind a CG-NAT address.
Providers like Airtel and BSNL are already ipv6, it looks like ACT doesn't give 2 hoots about one of their largest user bases. I would love to change to Airtel, but ACT has the best speeds/pings since the ONT switch is right above my house and not to mention, their plans are price worthy.
How or what can I as a consumer do to enable this?
On an unrelated note, how do I find a local ISP and whom do I ask? Everyone in my apartment uses ACT only and I don't know anyone in my area who uses cable TV. Tried goggling which didn't work.
