Cusing BSNL fiber with a Digisol DG-GR1321 router, which was provided and set up by a technician. I'm encountering an issue where my internet speed drops to ~ 1-2 Mbps when both my laptop and phone are connected simultaneously. The speed returns to normal when I disconnect one of the devices and refresh the WiFi connection on the device. This issue is quite bizarre. Additionally, the ping in Valorant is very inconsistent; it remains at 30-40ms for a while, then spikes to 800-1000ms (Packet loss is just too much), making the game unplayable.

I also have a question about potentially upgrading my router. I am considering replacing my current single-band router with a TP-Link XC220-G3v. Would this help in more consistent speeds and I've noticed some people use the Archer C6 in tandem with their default XPON router. Wouldn't this setup potentially cause more latency issues and further drops in speed?

I will try to answer any question regarding any specifics.

Thanks.

Go through this thread fully and hope you will get your answers. In short check with the BSNL before purchasing the TP-Link XC220-G3v

It's mainly for customer end equipment which is ONT and compatibility with the OLT. Use any router you want after the ONT as bridge mode is still available for us unlike some ISPs.

To summarize,
ALWAYS use TWO devices (Minimum).
The ONT should NOT be used as a Combo Device. Deploy a dedicated Router.
Use the ONT as a Dumb Modem in Bridge Mode. Hand over PPPoE negotiation and authentication duties to the Router.
This will ensure the ONT performs at the best possible capacity. It will not overheat or throttle the speeds.
