Nope. I only signed a piece of paper where the acknowledgement was in respect that the technical guy has installed the modem and set up the connection. Airtel had some tie up with our appartment association hence we didnt have to pay the Installation charge.

My experience with the word unlimited is as follows....
i signed up for a 48k (24hr) unlimiited plan from my local cable wallah more than 2 yrs ago in BLR.
It has dropped to 32k avg in the last yr or so.
Th idea is if i'm not happy to go elsewhere. The service is 80% reliable and the price is close to 1K/month and has stayed at that amount since i started. They took a 4k deposit as well, i might get that back if i'm not happy, but we know how reliable ppl are when they say that.
I plan to observe Airtel users for a few months more and see how this definition of unlimited evolves. I notice that providers have a tendency to oversubscibe users to what the network can actually handle. It's sweet at the begining then they start traffic shaping you. Typical example is the mobile phone network during the peak hrs of 6-9pm. I'm lucky if i the recepient even gets the call on certain networks, during those hrs. No Voicemail activated so no go.
Maybe someone here can let us know how much they have actually downloaded in the last month. "Busy" sounds nice but is quite vague. Is there anyone there DLing 24/7 for the last month ? We know the theoretical amount but what is the actual amount.
Dunno if Airtel has something like this but my ISP gives me a URL which gives me a display of my activity in the last day, week & month with a figure.

Airtel does give their customer's an interface to check the usage. The usage is updated twice or thrice in a week. One of the fellow member here said that he has downloaded 25GB per month. I've been downloading occassionally bringing an average of 3GB per month. This month I hope to reach above 10 GB and see how Airtel is gonna treat me next month.I was a customer of Atria cable earlier. Their service has almost 50% downtime. I would barely reach 6kbps speed. Inspite of this they sent me a huge bill once, claiming that I've crossed the allotted bw. Sad they did not mention or warn me about it while I was reaching the limit. I was with them for 2 years hoping the situation would improve. But sadly it didnt and I moved to Airtel.I don't trust ISPs when they actually use term Unlimited. That is very vague. If they give a figure, I can sleep peaceully. But I've read many reviews on the net, where members say that Airtel is actually not restricting the transfer in their unlimited plan. But lets see how things work out.

MTNL's NU is unlimited (in the true sense of the word) as well...as far as reaching the theoretical limit of 40 GB per month, i don't think anyone can reach that coz the speed is not constant 24 x 7...and when we talk about "theoretical" we just calculate it by the top speed the line can give us, that is 128 kbps...but i know everyone would agree that we hardly get that speed ever...the top speed...usually it's a KB or two less...and that's the best!!!

There are some good points in Airtel's favour. They are in the phone business, so for every internet connection they do, is an extra phone line installed as well. If VoIp ever takes off in this country this could be a huge win.
The underground cable, you know like every where else more advanced. Tho with the corporation's tendency to dig up what ever they want, heh.
They are not government owned. I'm guessing here, maybe some one more clued in could fill in the details.
Oh... i forgot a rather important point. All this unlimited business is subject to what BSNL does in the next couple of months. Why will Airtel continue to offer unlimited past this date when they will have added quite a few subscribers who thought they would escape the per Mb charges from their biggest competitor.
Per Mb pricing is big Diwali for these ISPS, instead of flat rate they can maximise profits to the point where they become slightly more attractive than using the friggin' phone. Not happy go elsewhere....no one is forcing you to stick with them.
BSNL does not charge any thing extra till the end of Jun, then their crazy quotas come into effect. Airtel 256k unlimited plan till end of Aug then a ridiculous quota of 2GB.
Anyone one want to bet this 128K unlimted stays that way after Aug ?
My guess is they will shape you so your 128 wil be 96 or 64. They won't impose a quota overnight but there will be a difference. They don't have the capacity to reliably deliver at that rate for an extended period. Why else would companies offer unlimited when you could theoretically DL 10s of GBs then charge after you cross 2GB ??

I laughed at the salesman and said i would cross that easily and had no intention of paying extra. I guess i must amend what i said earlier about my ISP as they are also a small telecoms company. When they offered me an unlimited 48k (now mysteriously shrunk to 32k) plan i jumped at it.
The so called cable wallahs ie Atria are the worst of the lot, expensive and unreliable. In fact i notice even their TV service seems to go off at annoying times. Can't wait to dump them.

airtel cannot change their packages and force us to use the newer ones. the package we have is the one we will retain inspite of airtel no longer offering that package to new users. as for speeds, the 128 kbps is supposed to be faster than 64kbps at any given time considering the 2:1 ratio mentioned on their website.
