What to consider when buying an used console? (Xbox 360)

I want to play the GTA 5 and thinking of buying an used console (xbox 360 or PS3)
I've got a good offer for xbox 360. I just want somebody to suggest me some things to look out for before buying the console like which years' product to avoid etc. help appreciated

Used xbox? IDK but there are chances that it will RROD if it is 2+ years old and a PS3 PHAT will YLOD
My suggestion is to get a hackable PS3 slim and play GTA V and some PS3 exclusives, Specially The last of us and uncharted series

yup most likely it will be banned ! gonna be a big problem to check.
If one is getting used one at 7k, Xbox 360, then its probably worth to get it I am looking under that price as i just wanna play Halo series on it and nothing else
