What happens when all users from same dp box use maximum speed of their plan simultaneously i.e 1Gbps? asking while taking reference of Airtel and Jio fiber?

Will all 16 users will get 1Gbps speeds simultaneously?

@nishantt6969 there is limited bandwidth going into each OLT. Home connections have shared bandwidth hence all 16 @ 1 Gbps may see a drop in speeds. But seriously, there hardly anybody has 1 Gig connections so not to worry.

I guess ISPs use a metric called contention ratio. Generally it's 1/50 i.e. 50 users simultaneously share the same bandwidth.
I guess we all experienced this to some extent during covid pandemic when there was explosion of usage of internet due to everyone working from home. I used to get lower speeds during daytime and somewhat better late nights

@rohitks yes, that's right. It is called contention ratio but the issue is most ISPs follow their own ratios depending on the number of subscribers and the available bandwidth in that area.

And we know local lco managed isp like excited have much higher ratio. That's why I was getting 60mbps -80mbps on 300mbps excitel plan during second lockdown.
