Whats Better Branded or Assembled Desktop ?

I think bobby should tell us what his Mobo is before we suggest how much RAM to use. My guess is that his Mobo will use dual channel memory and so RAM is best used in pairs. We don't know how many slots it has yet.

i am not very sure but i doubt a lot of medium level games would do well with just 1GB RAM on the machine. even if he gets a decent level graphics card, 1GB RAM is a major bottleneck.

Absolutely! for the first sentence.
In fact, the onboard gfx itself will consume a large chunk of his RAM. If he goes for a gfx card, he is likely doubling the memory available for the OS and applications anyway assuming half his 1 GB was being used by the onboard gfx processor. So adding the gfx card would give him the first major boost in gaming performance.
As for RAM, my guess is that he has just two RAM slots but has used just one and it is running in single channel mode. So a second 1 GB RAM stick with the same speed is probably just about right for him. But let him revert with his Mobo model first.

I checked the cost for a PC assembled with very high-end configuration...For i5 + 6gb ram + 1tb hdd + dvd writer (Bluray not yet in India) + ATX cabinet with dual fan + wireless keyboard and mouse + 1gb graphic card + 22" LCD FullHD monitor - the price i got was between 32-35K

(dont remember)1tb HDDAnyway the point is you get alot.......ALOT more for your money. But the support can be considered self service. Some basic understanding is required for troubleshooting. And you must take the faulty part to the centre centre yourself.So complete novices without nerd friends may be better off with branded PCs. Also for extremely busy people with money to burn.
