Anyway the point is you get alot.......ALOT more for your money. But the support can be considered self service. Some basic understanding is required for troubleshooting. And you must take the faulty part to the centre centre yourself.
So complete novices without nerd friends may be better off with branded PCs. Also for extremely busy people with money to burn.

Well said.. Just to add... Had two assembled PCs... And had no problem what so every for atleast first 3years...
So in most cases (unless we get a defective piece) we wouldn't need the support for first few years if well maintained...
Point to note even the branded ones give free warranty only for 1yr and additional if paid...

huh...then what are these?

I checked in shops... they aren't any in Hyderabad (CTC)

I know they have been available online on some sites... I wouldn't want to go with these as the reviews are not good... and prices are pretty inflated with Sony being the proprietary... the ones you mentioned must for lower end ones... Even in US the Dual-layer with 12X odd speed are costing 170 - 180$ (they dont come with bundled software in most cases)

Well let me chime my two cents.......... being using PC now for around 15 years always went the assembled model except for the iMac and the laptop computers I buy.If you know what you are doing assembled is the way to go.... otherwise branded, do note that I buy assembled computers not coz of the cost but I am very particular with the parts I would like in my system and generally my assembled systems I make cost me much more than branded computers so the logic of assembled is cheap is not true.... but again due to the high end parts I choose none of my assembled systems give me problems and the performance is generally great. Yeah you can get aways with very cheap parts while making assembled computers but...... by skimping with cheap SMPS / cabinets etc you are inviting trouble at at later stage, if you want to build a very high end system and know what you are doing then assembled is the way to go also if you plan to go assembled you should be a bit tech savvy so that the local system builder does not take you for a ride.
