As the title suggests, i am facing this issue with both Airtel and Tata when IPv6 is turned on. Unable to send/receive messages and download media on whatsapp, i get the clock(time) symbol instead of a double/single tick when sending message. Then after a few seconds it get's sent automatically most probably when it falls back to IPv4.
On Instagram, I've noticed that while watching reels, the comment section and saved posts fail to load. Additionally, stories take a significantly longer time to load than usual.
I am pretty sure that this issue is because of IPv6 because when i turned it off on Airtel Xstream/Tata Play, there's was no such issue. Everyone at my house connected to the WiFi is facing the same problem.I am an iPhone user. My parents use android phone so it's not an iOS only problem anymore.
As soon as i switch to mobile data, there's no choking either with insta or whatsapp.
Rest all services work super fine tho.
I found a reddit post, a OnePlus community post where similar problem is mentioned.
Until I noticed that the problem was not present when using mobile data, so it had something to do with my wifi.

IPv6 disabling solved the issue 100%. It's definitely a bug related to IPv6. But this impacts all my other devices and is a dirty workaround. Beside that it will not work on other WiFi networks.

Sorry for creating a new thread as i have already mentioned the same problem in Tata Play Fiber topic. Since i am pretty sure this is an IPv6 problem now, i thought of creating a more general thread.

Already sent an email to both airtel and tata play seperately explaining the issue. Let's see what happens

I have not faced issues in WhatsApp with Jio Fiber, Jio and Airtel mobile data. IPv6 is enabled in all of them. I don't use Insta, so no idea about it.

BTW, if you used mobile data then your network operator doesn't have IPv6?

Maybe it is just airtel/Tata having IPv6 issue on their broadband. 🤔

@Zuke you're right. Mobile network has IPv6 as well.
I am saying this because when i turn off IPv6 from the router, there's no such problem.

@rajat_ I have seen many people with different ISPs here who had slow browsing speed issues with IPv6 and disabling it fixed it for them. So maybe IPv6 isn't deployed properly in some places or maybe router issue?

I don't think it's a router issue. Two different ISPs two different routers. Sercomm(Airtel) and Nokia(Tata).
I have used ACT fibernet in blr which had native IPv6 and there was no such choking on whatsapp or insta. I am sure there's something wrong with IPv6 implementation on ISP level.
I have turned off IPv6 on both airtel and tata to avoid this for the time being. It's not a big issue for me as of now because i don't access any IPv6 only service/website/content. Just wanted to highlight it on the forum, that's it.
In order to eliminate this discrepancy, i have ordered the TP-Link Archer AX10.Will set it up in AP mode via ONT bridge connection.
I Will update this thread with the results. 🙂

Update:
Successfully setup Archer AX10 yesterday. Problem seems to be solved when bridged with Airtel Sercomm ONT, no whatsapp choking or page timeout on instagram but when bridged with Tata Nokia ONT, same problem still exists. I did write an email to them and they just turned off IPv6 remotely from my router🤦🏽‍♂️ and closed the ticket saying the problem has been addressed.
Airtel seems to be working fine after using Archer AX10 in bridge mode. No issues faced mentioned above since last 24 hours. All devices connected to it are getting IPv6 address.

Just FYI , whatsapp seems to be working fine for my TPF connection Nokia router in bridge mode using various TP-Link devices in chain (router, switch, mesh) with ipv6 enabled and accessing via my phone...
