value for money depends on what you are gonna do with it.
If you are a hardcore fan which plays their choice of games like Gran Turismo,Metal Gear Solid then you buy PS3 or in 360's case HALO,Gears,Mass Efeect or in
Nintendo's case ZELDA,MARIO,METROID.
But i guess you are not a hardcore and just looking to play games as casual with some benefits on the entertainment side so it is as follows
If you are gonna play Blu-ray then PS3.
Online is free on PS3 and $50 per year on 360.
PS3 is also an enterment platform more than 360.

xbox 360 is a better deal if you are not going to be able to afford original games.
ps3 is a better long term option considering it is a more capable gaming console and would likely to outlast xbox 360.
but xbox 360 would soon get project natal which is expected to be magical.
ps3 would get ps move capabilities soon which would provide a Wii like gaming experience.
it is a personal decision in the end. xbox 360 games are available in the market for modded consoles. ps3 i believe is still not modded.
PS3 is not hacked so it won't be modded, god knows when it will be
NATAL is yet to be seen what it can do,MS are saying it can do alot but they haven't shown anything yet.
PS MOVE on the other hand has shown alot of demos and it is in 3D space

PS3 anytime is a better console & BD Drive was always a plus for me - so couples as a BD DVD Player as well + enthusiasts can also experiment by installing Linux OS etc & use it as a computer as well.
LINUX OS removed, only through firmware update now

Not really. The 360 has the ability to both download and stream HD content from XBL/
Netflix or from your own home collection via
Windows Media Center. Physical media IMHO is going the way of the dodo. I just download the latest BR-Rip and stream it to my HDTV using my 360 which is way better than forking over $$ and buying BR dics that are usually months behind the online leaks anyways.
NETFLIX is not in INDIA.
physical media is not going the way of DODO,you can't stream BLU-RAY quality atleast in INDIA.
360 can stream through Windows but not standalone capability
and BR-RIP's take time to download at the FULL THING WITH THE EXTRAS AND ALL WHICH CAN GO UPTO 66GBS
