no,we can get speeds upto 384kbps and 230kbps in India.I know these are not broadband like speeds but still r ok if u want to surf and download a bit.In fact more than a bit.But there is a dark side as edge is not available in many parts of India.in fact in many parts of delhi.i think rohini is one place in delhi where edge is not enabled.So u get ordinary gprs connectivity in those areas.i am getting F**NG 35kbps speeds on my edge enabled Sony ericsson S500i with airtel.And 4.2 kBps DL speeds.
i used the mtnl data card on someones laptop and the speeds were good and constant
