Hi,So far I've been using Moser Baer DVDs, but I'd like to know if it is the best available in India, or whether there are any other ones that are better?I just got a Sony DVD; on it, it is written that it is 4.7 GB (Moser Baer DVDs were I think 4.5 Gbs), but when I opened it in Nero, it is still shown as maximum capacity 4.5 GB. So what is it?And is there anything like the life of a DVD - on occasional use (maybe once a month), how long will it last? Thanks.

the best dvd media is Taiyo Yuden which you wont find in india and if you do its fake. :pnext in line is Verbatim which again is very difficult to find here. im not sure if you could find it in your place.Sony is definitely better than moserbaer.how long a dvd will last depends on the quality of the media and also how good it is burnt by the burner. for a good burn, it could last for 2 years+. average burns should last for 1 year at least.

The one that is made by Taiyo Yuden is called "Gold Archival Grade", it is sold by Verbatim in India. Costs approx 20k for a Spindle of 100.Imported ones (Grey) cost $200 for a spindle of 100.These ones are made to last for 30+ years if stored in archival grade storage (similar to multi cror paintings documents etc). Product code for this is 95355

I cannot believe..
is that true that DVDs doesnot last until 2years? .. please some one clarify..
I purchased localmade(name:UMAX) DVDs at 9/- each (50 DVDs boxpack). 4 months ago. I burned all of them (most of them at 16X speed). no burn showed any problem during burning, and also reading until now. so ithought they are fine.[i used LG DVD RW drive]

I don't think that Sony DVD-Rs are any better than Moser Baer ones. In fact wasn't it on this forum that someone showed that Sony disks are just rebranded Moser Baers?I have had an extremely good experience with Verbatims.

Is Verbatim really only Moser Baer; then why should I search for Verbatim. In any case, where I live, there are only Samsung, Sony, Moser Baer, and maybe one or two other brands available; not Verbatim or anything.I thought DVDs would last your entire life? Too bad...Where I live, they have now started stocking the larger DVDs (I think they are called DVD9), which has a capacity of something like 9 GBs; so do you need a special DVD writer to burn those DVDs, or will a regular DVD writer (like my LG one) burn them? How do I find out if my drive supports these larger discs? Thanks.

If your writer packaging says that it supports "double layer" and "dual layer" discs, then it should support dvd9. Any writer purchased 2004 onwards has this capability, I suppose.
