which is the best modem for airtel 512 kbps plan

hello people.i m new here and have less knowledge about modems, routers and stuff :huh:i got my airtel connexion(now using 512 kbps unlimited) some 3 yrs back and havent replaced the modem since then.....upto last month the speed was fine and ok ping with european people (around 210-250 ms) but these days the speed is pathetic, ping is pathetic around 300-350 ms...can it be due to my old modem? i m using beetel adsl2 220BXI modem......will changing modem help ? or will i have to upgrade my speed to 1 mbps or 2 mbps or shud i go with reliance new connexion?

Your plan has nothing to do with the modem. That modem can easily support 1Mbps.If your ping is slower than usual, then there might be an issue with your phone line. Pick up your Airtel landline & listen for noise. Make a complaint with Airtel if you hear any noise. You can also log into your router to have a peek at your signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) & Line Attenuation, which will give you an indication of your line quality.496kbps for a 512 kbps line is not too great, but it's not too bad either.

thanks for reply.....i m not hearing any sound/noise as such...called customer care but i guess its sunday so there may not be so many executives today..well ok the modem can support 1 mbps but u see this is a 3 year old modem and my pc runs for almost 15 hrs a day (downloading etc), so as a result modem gets heated up a lot
will i be better off switching to reliance or any other which is hbbetter and can give me gud pings ? my budget is only 1 k per month :O
