ther are already tutorial floating out ther in this forum . do a search.

as hathway uses Cable modem, the connection will be
Hathway modem====> wireless router======> computer/s
there are variety or Wireless router which can cater your needs.
i will suggest going for b/g - type router & if you put-off extra buks go for n-routers
can choose between Linksys, netgear or D-Link,

The only advantage you get with a "N" router is you get better wireless speed on your home network so it's good for file sharing among your home computer.Otherwise a b/g is good enough as ultimately your "ISP" speed is important.

i need to know if there has to be some setting to be done in the wireless modem.....i have connected them in the same order....but i am unable to use internet....i am able to connect to the router......

if you are using hathway in Pune, i know for sure that they provide static IP addresses.
You will need to configure your router with the static IP's provided by hathway.
so 1st find out those IP's, then logon to the router configuration page and typically depending on the router model/manufacturer there will a configuration page where you can enter the static IP info.

Here is another suggestion to find your IP, check your computer IP address settings, your static IP might be there....
