Why I switched from Airtel Xstream Fiber to Tata Play Fiber?

hey @87056 quick question, what was your airtel router? and how did you put it in bridge mode? how did you get the pppoe username and password?

@wapenshaw it was the sercomm ONT. The settings appeared to be locked but you just have to right click and do inspect element and erase the disabled classname tag. Hit save and then you can change it to bridge mode.
I was able to get the PPPoE credentials from the thanks app. You can search the forum on how to exactly get it, I don't remember the exact method.

@87056 what ONT did they give you with the TPF connection? I got the Nokia for both Airtel and TPF while BSNL is . Of course this was years ago and I think they are now supplying other makes too.

BSNL made me purchase a Syrotech ONT from the LCO.

@Chip I got the Nokia ONT with TPF, it's already in bridge mode since day 1 so I have no idea about it's performance. Afaik TPF gives Nokia ONTs only, Airtel gives from other brands as well. Anyway it doesn't matter what ONT they supply, all of them have range and connectivity issues.

I feel ISPs should give the option of dumb ONU for users who want to use their own router like ACT does. They are expanding quite rapidly in Pune but currently unavailable at my location.

I had a dumb Nokia ONU before they changed it to the Nokia ONT/router. I had upgraded to 1 Gig for a month or two and the line speed wasn't good enough.

All ISP modems/ONTs are very so so in performance. For better range and speed you must upgrade the router by switching the ONT to bridge mode and using a 3rd party router/mesh system.

Tata Play Fiber user here!

I have Tata Play Fiber for a good 6 ~ 9 months at this month & can say it is extremely excellent!
It does have some hiccups time to time for example when the dynamic IP changes but near zero down time.

Customer Service is um meh, I guess? I haven't called Customer Service that much. The only time, I did was when my network was down for almost a week & it took a bit of time for the technician to come but they fixed the issue promptly & swiftly.

Bufferbloat on their stock provided router is decent atleast for me, mostly A in most Waveform Bufferbloat tests.

Getting more than 300 Mbps of download speed on most servers like steam, epic games, microsoft, google and AWS. I am on the 200 Mbps plan btw. Upload speed seems to be hardcapped at 200 Mbps which is fine ig.
There was some issue with App Store showing "unable to connect" on my iPhone and I was unable to use iMobile application(ICICI Bank) over WiFi. Both worked fine on mobile data. Happy to report that both these issues got fixed automatically. I haven't noticed any website blocking as of now. Using the cloudflare(primary) and Cisco(secondary) DNS.
I just hope my connection stays this way

Airtel service quality has gone down severely.

@Rhishav , right said. every passing day Airtel is racing to the bottom.
One need to wait till eternity to talk to their customer cares, and if somehow they pick your call they have only one answer.. install their spyware thanks app.

Their DSA are full of scammers, Nodal never responds to you.

here is my experience with Airtel:
When act started to act-up in my area i was forced to move to airtel, used it for 3+yrs.
later when i wanted to disconnect the services ( as i was moving out for 6+ months), they did a big drama, please do not disconnect - give it to your relatives, friends, neighbors, etc. - i had to escalate to stop the services.
But the technician guys never came to collect the router he insisted please keep it with you and when i return he will come and reinstall the services.. i never agreed but since my travel days approached i left.

When i return back (same area diffrent door number) , called that guy . he asked me to raise a request to relocation. it took solid 2-3 days to raise the request. And later i got a call that i need to pay them 6-month advance if i need to take the services again. And it seems as i was an old returning customer its the norm now, minimum 6 months advance payment.

By that time tata was available in that area, and based on my neighbor's suggestion bit the bullet and took TATA , paid 3 month advance only.
Their quality is top notch, called to CC connect in 10 second. not "Instal my spyware thanks app".
The technician head on my area calles me periodly once in 2-3 month, and checks if i have any problem.

100% recomended, if you have tata connectivity, dont opt for airtel.. give yourself mental peace.

Tata Play Fiber services is top notch, the installation guy gave me his personal number and has followed up with me multiple times over WhatsApp if I am facing any issue with the connection. He has asked me to contact him directly in case of issues and not raise any ticket on the app since their salary gets deducted if there are issues with newly installed connections(as per him). I guess they have a lot of incentive to keep the connection up and as I customer it's super convenient for me to just give him a call in case I run into any issues.

I have not faced any issue or downtime since installation and the connection is rock solid. Gold standards of home broadband IMO. Getting download speeds of more than 300Mbps on 200Mbps plan which is great.
I hope tata stays this way and doesn't run behind rapid expansion to every nook and corner of the country. They have good presence here in Pune.

It's been ~3 months now since I switched to TPF and my experience has been great. There were hardly any downtimes, and I was always notified before. One of the most reliable ISPs out there for sure for consumer broadband. I am on the 200 Mbps plan but download speeds have been more than 300 Mbps while upload speeds remain capped to 200 Mbps. Although I am not a heavy downloader, those extra 100 Mbps comes in handy when I download or update games.
I never contacted the customer support even once till date, reliability of the connection has been super good.
