^its called tamil nadu.. and yeah.. so what?? the fact of the matter is that the investment was for India.. doesn't matter which state it went to.. obviously he'd give preference to his state more than the others..its not a big deal to get foreign investment.. and.. what is it that u know abt getting foreign investment in various sectors in India.. do u honestly think that the current minister can get the same if not more investment into India?free broadband had the potential to upset all the players.. just like 2mbps.. look at the way how airtel's limited plans are compared to the ones from bsnl..free broadband, however it might have been, could've brought in ppl who would've thought that broadband was a luxury that was not worth the money spent in it.. and would do wonders to the broadband penetration in india..

It's stupid to assume that any other incoming minister will be inferior to maran. Maran is a dynamic young leader and always used to be in the news due to his strong ideas but people are exaggerating his achievements although he did quite a bit. Ministers never ever take decisions on their own. There are experts in every field and they are the actual people who put up a blueprint for different ideas as that is the most safer and efficient way. I'm sure even maran practised it.As for people getting worked up over this free broadband thing , they need to wake up. How can free broadband be feasible when you don't have unlimited connections with decent speeds. Even if it became a reality there is no way it's going to be unlimited. All these things are insignificant when there are issues like unbundling of the last mile , setting specific standards and adhering to the quality of service parameters.

well.. before maran.. what were the "revolutions" in the broadband sector? its not being stupid in any way to assume that the incoming minister will be any better than maran.. its logical!! his achievements are very impressive.. his idea's.. not very ideal.. but.. none the less would have gone a long way in increasing broadband penetration in india..

?? i dont follow what is being said here.

Are you saying it would have showed more ppl how crap broadband in India really is, so this might have done wonders ?..in terms of general awareness.

Cos i'm under the impression that the private players decided to shelf any plans till this 'free' thing became more clear. maybe now that the idea is hopefully dead they might bring out something interesting.

He mastermined One India plan, reducing call rates, roaming rates (in Hindustan times today in a interview he revealed that he's goin to scrap all Roaming charges from Bsnl on 3rd June - Karunanidhi's B'day), getting Spectrum from Army, About to Introduce 3 G services, Broadband and then 2 MBPS speed, n also expressed his desire to make it all free by his tenure till 2009, and overall brought Transparency to the telecom dept...

:whistle:He is the one who rejected the TRAI recommendation on MNP and Unbundling the local loop both of the thing kills the competiton by giving cust no choice.
What will we do of 2Mbps connection with 400mb limit also world is moving to 4G and we r using going to implement 3G that too is delayed to mid 2008. What will we do of the free roaming when there is no interconnection between bsnl(largest coverage) and pvt operators he shud have forced bsnl. Free BB oh i was expecting free local calls which is a standard worldwide and voice is used by 95% of LL users not BB.
He is the one(IMO) who has made it to TRAI to not to force cas pricing to DTH operators as his son owns the sun channel(also in Dth operations).

Overall he was better than previous one. Atleast knows what Babus were doing at his back.

Exactly my words..do u mind read? or are u a visitor to VT as well? :P

Anywayz couldnt agree with u more..i am amazed ppl cant see thru moron's lame attempts..

Hello ? ..since when is it standard worldwide,

..its only free in countries like US, Canada,Oz & the Gulf, certainly *not* in the EU or Japan.

We did have some free calls here pre-1996, that was because the long distance calls were way overpriced so it subsidised the local ones. Not like there were as many local phones anyway given the years long wait to even get a friggin phone.

After 1996, when India joined the ITU agreeing that a call placed abroad to India would cost the same as one placed from India to that place, did we see the drop in free local calls. Pulse durations shortened and their price increased as well.

@blr_p.. let me give u an example.. i got a friend who din't think he would need broadband.. after he actually got it cuz of my continuous ranting, he realised how helpful it actually was.. n.. changed his plan from home 250 to home 500...free broadband.. could do the same..

We did have some free calls here pre-1996,

i dont think there were free calls. but i do remember time when u cud talk unlimited for 1 Re. i.e. charges were per call and not per 3 min or 5min.

It is as simple : reverse MARAN :- N A R A M. Many ppl expected too much from him and many critisised too much of him. Now this shows that there is a limit for everything. Now grease your palms and wait with patience.
