Zee Dish TV DTH: Dish TV customer base reaches 3.94 million

Dish TV India, the Essel Group owned direct-to-home (DTH) company, has added 1,75,307 new subscribers in September, 2008, taking the total registered customer base to 3.94 million.

Dish TV has added 5,29,077 subscribers in the Q2 FY'09 as compared to 2,77,896 subscribers in Q2 FY'08 resulting in a robust growth of 90 per cent. The adoption of the DTH market category has now reached around 4,50,000 subscribers on a monthly basis.

"Strong subscriber acquisition has been achieved in the month of September despite the period of Shradh and Ramzan, when purchasing new items is considered inauspicious." says Salil Kapoor, COO, Dish TV India.

"As part of our constant endeavor to provide world class service to the customers and bring the Dish TV experience close to them, we have launched free customer service camps in select cities across the country." Kapoor says.

The company has also recently reduced its entry price point to Rs 1,990 from Rs 3,990. Competitor Tata Sky had reduced its price point to Rs 2,990 early last month.

Currently, Dish TV has a market share of 54 %, with 3.94 million DTH subscribers, while Tata Sky has 2.2 million. Big TV, which launched its DTH service recently, has not issued any subscriber numbers yet. Sun TV also offers DTH and has pan-India ambitions. The other two planning to join the DTH race are Bharti and Videocon.
