Speaking at a public function in Hisar, Chandra revealed that he has told the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that while he is interested in contesting elections, the final decision, however, will be taken after consulting people from his would-be constituency Hisar.

Despite having many politician friends, Chandra has so far avoided active politics. But his love for the saffron party was never in doubt. He had shared stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
His open support for the BJP and Modi was preceded by his bitter public spat with former Congress MP from Haryana and industrialist Naveen Jindal who had filed a police complaint against him and his news channel Zee News for alleged extortion in return for positive coverage in the coal scam case.
