Hello All,

I went to MTNL CSC(Mulund ) and requested them to upgrade my triband plan from DSL_8Mbps_1199 to BB-1500-16M..When I asked the lady she said 16 Mbps is not feasible...I said My building is 500 m from exchange, that satisfies the criteria of this plan ..She was shocked when I said that and then told me to talk to telecom officer...I went to this cabin ,But he was absent and some people there told me 16 Mbps is not possible....Feeling dejected I changed my plan to BB-1500-8M..60GB FUP...Can anyone tell me the places where 16Mbps plan is feasible...

Il post my router stats it is capable of handling upto 24Mbps...Some guy also said that I need to change my router and he was also yapping about Fiber FTTH....I am 100% sure that this plan(BB-1500-16M) is not Fiber ..So I chose Not to get into an argument with these people...
Currently i am getting 7.01 Mbps Down and 0.50 Mbps Up in my current plan....Also curious whether that that can be improved or should I be happy with this?

Hello All,

I also get 7mbps on my 8mbps plan on BSNL, you can try asking them to set the data rate to 9mbps so that you may get 8mbps.

Thanks for the reply Bro..Will do that..
Il post my router stats as soon as I reach home...Tht should give a clear picture whether My router can handle 16Mbps Line speed.
If you want to extract maximum speed from your line, I suggest you buy TP-Link TD-8816 V8 modem from Amazon. We have found it to be the best ADSL2+ Modem in last 10 years of using MTNL.

If you want ADSL Modem+router (Non-wifi), go for TP-Link TD-8817

Please find the below speed test and my line stats

2.Line stats

uprate however is 2047 kbps ..but as per speed test I am getting only 0.49 Mbps...
Also coming back to my question Can this router handle BB-1500-16M Plan???

Exactly my point !!...Thanks for clarifying it d5aqoëp..If my router can handle ~24Mbps..Why are these people telling me to change the router for BB-1500-16M Plan ..It would be a lot of inconvenience...I need to talk to the telecom officer at my exchange...Il pay a visit tomorrow and tell him not to change my router....Hope those aunties wont give me a tough time tmrw :(...If he says no I have no other option but to wait..:sweating:
Out of curiousity ,Can anybody Please tell me areas in Mumbai, where 16Mbps plan is effective ..8Mbps 60GB FUP is a good plan...But there is no harm in upgrading to 16Mpbs 50GB FUP...Because we use 45-50Gb almost ever month and even after Post FUP we show no signs of slowing down :p
I also use D-Link DAP 1320 Wireless extender to extend my Wifi signal throughout the house...Hope that wont cause any speed decrease..

Thanks for your prompt response everyone...I sincerely hope that some day Il get BB-1500-16M plan in my area :)

@Anup Iyer

I cannot find where you have mentioned the make and model of your MTNL ADSL modem/router. You even went on about telling name of your your Wifi extender (which is of no use). How do you expect people to help you?

Let me be clear once and for all. TP-Link TD8816 and TD8817 are the modem routers which work best with MTNL. Many people here use them as dumb modems in "bridge" mode. The real work of dialing a PPPoE connection as well as providing Wifi to house is done by a heavy weight router. Most advanced users avoid using wifi repeaters as the bandwidth is reduced to half or even lower. Keep just 1 good powerful router at a central location inside your house.
