I want to share an experience with Signal. I had made a backup of signal on my MMC which was password protected (pass/key created by signal). Then I switched phone and tried to restore backup using signal key. It wouldn't..
I didn't understand what was wrong. Or was Signal meant to work that way(any transfer of backup on new device becamoes void).
While I used the same key on previous phone just to ensure it was working, it worked w/o issues.
If that is the way it works, it is both good and bad.

Threema has a good feature as there is no need for ur phone number (all 3 use ur number as an identifier). It generates an id (don't know, haven't tried) which means your phone number is not stored with them which is further proofing you.

WhatsApp is to implement its changed Privacy Policy from next month in India which will force people using WhatsApp to accept the changed terms if they want to avail the usage of WhatsApp or else they will have to delete the WhatsApp from their mobile.
As much as I would like to get rid of Whatsapp..... But I would not push BJP agenda..... their IT Cell team Malviya, Cheapos like Surya etc. are now shaken to core after twitter & Facebook banned Trump account. They are crying foul......

Even Truecaller nicely helps itself to a users contacts to build its database. To be fair they give an option to people to opt out but I am not sure how many non users know their number is in the Truecaller database.
