Let me clarify .. I want to return the 2.4GHz Netlink ONU-router that BSNL sold me, get refunded for it (Rs 2500) and then use that money to buy a dual band router-modem combo, preferably of another brand like Huawei. Do you have any recommendations for such a combo unit ?
You dont need to give anything back to them. Just get a good gigabit router like TP-Link Archer C6, and bridge it to the ONT. Bridge mode is very easy, lots of tutorials on youtube are available. That will solve all your problems

If you don't wanna spend at all, you can change some settings to get better speeds over wifi.
In my experience, one common mistake they make is that they set the security protocol to WEP which limits link speed to 54mbps, which might explain the real world speed of 30mbps you are getting.
Change it to WPA2 and you'll get 72mbps (or 150mbps 2x2) link speed, with real world speed of atleast 50-55mbps.

But do buy an router from a reputed brand like TP-Link, D-Link, etc and run the modem on bridge mode. These garbage Syrotech, Netlink are all made by same chinese manufacturer and have terrible firmwares. Many of these have a flaw what allows root level shell access even after you change password. I made a post about that on this forum. I don't really care so I never reported it to BSNL.

Then they should have made that clear before I purchased the plan. Not after installation. The blame lies on them .. they must refund.

Well, it's most likely part of the T&Cs which you probably have agreed to already. Also, it's industry practice and I would agree too.

If you do not get the promised speed over a wired network, then yeah you have all the right to complain.

Having said that, achieving 60 mbps or so should be possible even with that ONT device. Might need some tweaks. But before all that, check the speed over a wired connection.

I already checked it as a wired connection .. I get 60-70 Mbps with a LAN cable, so no problem there.

It is the wireless connection that is the problem.. only 35 Mbps !

Can you suggest any tweaks to my Netlink ONT to get higher wifi speed ?

Security encryption protocol is set to the option 'WPA2 Mixed' .. is that okay ? Other options are WEP, WPA and WPA2

Where is that post ? I can't find it.

Hi varkey, please suggest some ONT tweaks if you can .. you seem to know about this stuff. Or if anyone else has suggestions, thanks !
