A friend is looking for a wireless router with good range and performance. He plans to keep the router on the first floor. He needs coverage on the ground floor and roof. I think his house is what we call 350 gaj. I think he would be fine for something under 2.5-3K though cheaper would be nice. He is currently on Airtel but is considering shifting to Reliance to save money on my recommendation (he lives in my sector only).

Can you convert Gaj to sq ft?

From experience, I don't think a router under 4k can cover three levels completely. Sure you'll get coverage directly above and below the router. But if the floor area is large, it won't work out.

With a router kept on the first floor, I could cover the entire floor, but coverage above and below was extremely patchy. I made the mistake of buying a cheap (around 3k) router initially. Ended up buying two more (one for each floor) and connecting them via Lan to get good coverage.

So, can the 3.5k not be extended by a bit?

I would suggest at least two routers to meet the requirements.

My house has thick walls, so that could also have been a contributing factor.

1 gaj is apparently 9 feet so i assume 3150 sq feet?

:D my house is around the same and my buffalo router does work very well considering its placement in the basement.

suggest the router for around 4k. i would send him the list. best is to invest a bit more in a router than invest again in an extender at a later stage.

The guy spent a lot on interiors just recently. I do not think he would like hanging wires here and there. If nothing else works, I can always ask him to get a cheapo repeater at a later stage. Just suggest a solid good quality wireless router! I think TP-Link has a model with 3-4 antennas? Maybe that would help? :P I think putting the router on the first floor should give usable coverage on the ground floor and the roof above. I mean my repeater on the ground floor lets me access the internet on roof. My router is of course in the basement!

As you've mentioned he's going to Keep Router in First floor thats a big performance Boost in itself.

So any TP-Link 300mbps Router would give easy access to his 350 gaz house and even neighbors without a hitch.
