hey netfreak, I am done with the p2p phase of life; I dont download anything anymore. The occasional new software release is not that frequent, so I dont need a lot of data transfer.Though I need dedicated voip for calls overseas at anytime of the day (even to actual phones). If the limit for mtnl nu was raised to say 5 gb for the month, then it would be safe. I cant risk the 1 gb limit & then get overbilled.

IMHO Airtel meets that criteria, so yes, there is one ISP, although it's not available everywhere.

MTNL is supposed to provide good speeds but their CC is terrible. Their billing is from Pluto! So....I too wont risk taking MTNL...even if it is for a redundant line. I will jump at MTNL DSL the moment they come out with AFFORDABLE, UNLIMITED plans!

well u guys are not aware that our great indian ISPs dont have the technology to go beyond some 8 Mbps connections.so they just wanna rip as much money as they want with small speeds as of now and theyll introduce 2 Mbps unlimited connections in 2008 or even 2009 for an affordable price of 2500 rupees !!! .So just be patient guys 
The only hope is from the private ISPs like Airtel and others,as those sarkaris never use their own brains.Foreign ISPs like verizon,cox,comcast should step into India and make some serious steps regarding broadband in india.

My thoughts too. I fail to understand what made mtnl fix the limit to 1 GB which is ridiculous. If mtnl increased the limit to 5 GB or more it would be a killer scheme which will bring them a lot of new customers. We can keep on ranting about mtnl but it won't matter unless we users take a collective initiative and make mtnl think seriously about such issues.

If you are using a single VOIP line, then you should be safe. I run vonage box for calling US / UK. With 10 - 20 calls everyday, I have yet to cross 1 GB limit.
