50 paisa coins no longer being accepted by shops

So then where are these coins going ?. Are the people putting in ponds, lakes, and hundis in the pilgrim places ?. I am really not finding these coins, Even the beggers these days asks for 1 Re coin. Or is it because we are staying in big cities/metro cities such coins never come to us because of its usage is very less. coolbuddy, your post also shows 10NP coin, But its much difficult to find it.Your views ?

so u can get them exchanged from RBIa shopkeeper near my house collects them and when they amount to 500 or something he gets them exchanged from his bank

i dont think 10p is legal.but yes 25p and 50p are legal. till now, i havent faced any problems dealing with it. havent seen 25p coins for a long time though.

I stay in jabalpur , MP where there is totally no circulation of 50 paisa coins leave alone 25p. and to my amazement as i go out of the district , there are in use freely. I was in pune where they were readily accepted. this non acceptance is a silent treaty amongst the sellers so that there profit is maximised. there is nothing u can do between a rupee and two. If samosa costed Rs. 2 , it will be raised to Rs 3 directly. Air for tyre tubes , same , two tyres 3 rupees, 1 Tyre 2 rupees because they wont take 1rupee50paise. Does anybody know the legal angle on this?

Did u try giving them 50 paisa candies too .. Maybe they will accept , if not they should not expect us to do same .

I always refuse those sweetsas they are no way even worth 50p, insist on change, sometimes they even end up giving me a ruppee.

this thread came much as a shock to me. 50p coins are used as normally as any other coins in mumbai.the problem comes with 25p coins which is still a legal currency. no one accepts them except bus conductors.

even beggers dont accept 50p around here. even though what they do is illegal.all the 50p coins i end up with, i give them to mom who drop them in the box where the money for the mandir gets accumulated.
