Academy Awards (Oscars)

I am happy for Rahaman.Great achievement.Congrats Rahaman.Wish you will again do it for us.

If he speaks against that movie now surely many will dislike his thoughts and him too........:cool2:

What all he said about the movie was right.. They have just shown the poverty in India.. These goraas will give awards to the movies in which they have shown good about them.. Why didnt Lagaan win? One of the reason was Goraas were shown as losing !Am just happy for A R Rehman.. and whatever Amitabh had written abt the movie was right.. I agree with him..

Oscar is meant only for English Movies only.........apart from they are also giving awards for best documentry film and also for best foreign film........

oscar is not really meant for english movies. :P

Today, according to Rules 2 and 3 of the official Academy Awards Rules, a film must open in the previous calendar year, from midnight at the start of January 1 to midnight at the end of December 31, in Los Angeles County, California, to qualify.[20] Rule 2 states that a film must be \"feature-length\", defined as a minimum of 40 minutes, except for short subject awards and it must exist either on a 35 mm or 70 mm film print or in 24 frame/s or 48 frame/s progressive scan digital cinema format with native resolution not less than 1280x720.
The members of the various branches nominate those in their respective fields while all members may submit nominees for Best Picture. The winners are then determined by a second round of voting in which all members are then allowed to vote in most categories, including Best Picture.[21]

Practically speaking the awards are given to english movies only......... Could please tell me did any get any awards in Oscars apart from documentry film, best foreign film or life time achievement award......:cool2:

One point of contention is the lack of consideration of non-English language films for categories other than Best Foreign Language Film. Very few foreign language films have been nominated for any other categories, regardless of artistic merit. To date, only eight foreign language films (and one partly foreign language film) have been nominated for Best Picture: Grand Illusion (French, 1938); Z (French, 1969); The Emigrants (Swedish, 1972); Cries and Whispers (Swedish, 1973); Il Postino (Italian/Spanish, 1995); Life Is Beautiful (Italian, 1998); Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Mandarin Chinese, 2000); and Letters from Iwo Jima (Japanese, 2006), which was ineligible for the Best Foreign Language Oscar because it was an American production. The first partly foreign language film to win Best Picture is Slumdog Millionaire (English/Hindi, 2008), a third of which is in Hindi.

Thanks for the valuable information admin ji............:thumb: I was also correct you were also correct...........till now 81 times Academy awards were conducted and as on date only 8 films have won oscars even though it was a non-english film but was considered and nominated for general award category along with the english films...........

the fact remains... oscars is not specific for english language movies. period. :)

The fact is 99% of the english films are considered and 1% of the time non english films are considered that my view and the record proves the same.......
