difference is, you need to open ports for ur method. and for them, you dont have to open ports !!

i had been running my dyndns almost like three years... i controlled for running online radio, ftp, personal website and torrents from office....

but logme in, you neednt update ur ip or u neednot know your ip !! it works thru port 80 as it is not blocked in any places where u get internet !!

if it is Remote Administrator or any other software, you need to open some ports and use it.. and dyndns need to get updated (sometime router wont update dyndns immediately -> i had problem with Netgear/D-Link/Linksys routers) !!

Appus....For logmein you need the client software working in your pc all the time,it this client logmein software that sends the updated ip address to logmein server where we can connect to that ip,and also we have to unblock that logmein client program by adding it into the firewall exception list..

I used LogMeIn for 2 months when i was out of india . Worked like a charm. In Free version they dont allow to transfer files./.......but whats the big deal....start a messenger on remote machine and transfer any file of any size to current machine. LogMein rocked for me.

I used Logmein for a while and now I am reverting back to remote desktop. We can access the pc easily by just entering the ip address in the MSTSC console, and if ip address is uknown we can use dynamic dns service and instead of IP we can give DNS name. Now a days most of the DSL routers provide dynamic dns feature, by proper port forwarding we can connect to a remote session with the PC and we can share anything the remote pc....

For any software to access other PC, you need some service/client running.. even Microsoft Remote Desktop, you need to enable it. so that service is running. And adding firewall list, normally most of the firewall allows it unless you specify it (i have norton 360 now) ! and if you block remote desktop, then it wont be functioning !

those things work if you have your own setup. If you have to access your office pc (with two three routers which you dont have access to), then it is not possible at all ! with logme in, you can !

Yes i have used Remote Administrator for years to access my home pc from my office and vice-versa since i was the network admin in the company !

Many routers wont update properly if router gets restarted often.. I had problems with different routers. that is what i mentioned in above post !

And what i mentioned by saying port 80 is, you are using thru http (web interface). it is not using any other port ! (so you dont open any ports. ie, port forwarding)

All of you have written about using various methods of remote connection. For Buddus(idiots) like me can someone give a detailed step by step tutorial in this section itself? The original author offered to give one. But afterwards everything got sidetracked.

Mr Ramakrishnan...there are various methods to access a pc remotely...if you need a detailed step by step procedure then you have to provide your system and internet connection specification(should include ADSL router type, connection encapsulation etc...). So try to provide a detailed description.

/members/mramakrishnan/Please send a PM to @onlytest who offered the tutorial ! post No 1.He may be kind enough to post it here in this thread. better request him to open a new thread !

this TeamViewer looks interesting...i've been using LogMeIn for around 6 yrs now and i couldn't find a better (read free) remote access software than this...mstsc has it's own headache...but seems TeamViewer's gonna give a tough competition to LogMeIn free version...
