Hi,I am MTNL Broadband user from Delhi. When Broadband arrived in Delhi I had inquired in my Telephone Exchange and was informed that the cable length from exchange to my home was higher than those required by available DSL technology and was denied connection, so I started using cable Internet of SIFY. In the year 2006, I inquired once again and was given Broadband connection and UT-300R2U modem with one LAN and one USB port. For 6 months I used it happily and surrendered the connection as I went out of Delhi for 10 months. After coming back to Delhi in May 07 I applied once again and was given UT-304R2 modem with 4 LAN connections (no USB). I am in Rs 199/- 400 MB plan. The Broadband worked perfectly till the day Delhi received 165 mm rain in 24 hours and my phone was dead for 2 days. After the phone was available the Broadband is giving problems. In day time the ADSL light glows every 10 or 30 seconds and there is a fresh connection with new IP address. How can I browse like this? After 8 PM I get stable connection. Sometimes on weekends and holidays I get stable connection in day time. Today being National Holiday, I am connected at present and posting this thread. I have read some posts regarding "SNR Margin" on this forum and don't find satisfactory values but before I write the values I have a relevant question. What is meant by "Downstream Upstream" in these values?and let me guess what is meant here.Downstream means the cable between the modem and the LAN port of the PC and the PC itself.Upstream means telephone line from the exchange to some terminal box in my housing society, internal wiring done by the society during construction time upto the wall socket in my house, small telephone cable from the wall socket to the splitter, small telephone cable from the splitter to the modem. If what I guess is correct than the "Downstream" values depend upon the quality of cable between the modem and the LAN port of the PC and PC itself if it has loose internal connections between the LAN port and the motherboard etc.Now following are the current values:Item Downstream Upstream UnitSNR Margin 16.5db 19.0db dB Line Attenuation 31.0db 18.5db dB Loss of Signal 0 0 CRC Errors 5356 0 Data Rate 2048 Kbps 256 Kbps kbps Latency Fast Fast I have read in one post on this forum that SNR Margin on Downstream should be (or is it could be) +41 dbIf my guess about "Downstream" is correct it simply means I should change cable between the modem and the LAN port of the PC. Well, MTNL had provided 4 cables (since the MOdem has 4 conncetions). I don't find much change by replacing the cable I was using (except one cable found open). Kindly analyze my problem. Offcourse, needless to say that I have registered numerous complaints with MTNL and I am fed up with them. kagashe
