Centre not in favour of censorship of
TV programmes: Soni
Chandigarh , Oct 23 The Centre today said it was not in favour of censoring TV programmes, but supported the formation of a regulatory body to monitor their contents.
\"We are not for censorship of TV programmes. There is a debate going on for a long time on what kind of a body should be there to regulate the content of private channels,\" Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.
The ministry was already into a debate with Indian Broadcasters Association, Editors Association and other bodies of broadcasters on self regulation and on the contents of TV channels that were presented before the civil society, she said.
\"I feel that there should be a regulatory body to look into contents of TV channels,\"she said.
Noting that presently around 500 private channels are operative in the country, she said her ministry was against new channels becoming operative till the composition of the regulatory body was decided upon.
She, however, said\"the ministry will allow only those new channels which are found financially sustainable for three to five years to operate in the country.

At the least Foriegn channels movies plus entertainment ones should have less or no censorship.
At present english movies are unwatchable due to excessive editing only material suitable for 10 year olds are shown they edit even something as petty as kissing scenes. so thats need to be changed.
